The drawback to ‘playing it safe’ in life

A lot of people with a trusting nature bemoan being taken advantage of. As a person who has experienced that awful feeling too many times to count, I sympathize. I really do, but there is another side to it all. While we might be spared a few bad experiences; its at the cost of experiencing greater highs in life and the potential rewards. There is little ‘pay out’ when you play it emotionally ‘safe’.

How else would you know what a hot stove felt like unless you touched it to see? By getting burned a few times, you are able to appreciate those who deserve your trust (when you finally find them). If you never took any risks, you’d never have good experiences (either). It’s a trade off.
