‘The raven’s eye’

A blackened pearl gleams
inside a raven’s watchful eye.

Reflecting upon the cold truth
while gliding across the sky.

Surveying the ground for prey
to feed a brood of noble size.

Deftly it snatches an earthworm
and clutches its treasured prize.
