‘When the demon calls’

Sometimes it’s a bowl of ice cream,
or a big slice of chocolate cake.

Other times the call comes at 3 am;
which makes us wide awake.

We’re unable to resist the pangs;
these irresponsible pizza cravings.

There’s always a great desire to eat;
calories that we should be saving.

The magnetic pull of our appetite;
leads to food tempting obsessions.

The bathroom scale forever near;
to listen to our sad confessions.

Self-control and will power at odds;
Locked forever in a mortal fight.

By sneak attack it strikes the weak,
these battles take place at night.

There is but one course of action,
when the weight-gain demon calls.

Erect a keyless vault between you
and the fridge; one with many walls.
