‘Each day is a victory’

‘Each day alive is a victory’.
We all rise to wage the war.
The enemy of life is death.
Survival we must fight for.

Today we take our spoils;
but battle is a daily chore.
Tomorrow is another day;
unknown what’s in store.

The bunker is six feet deep.
A soldier’s legacy is secure.
Buried deep within a coffin;
the perfect crypt metaphor.

To the end we gave our all.
A gallant fight to the last day.
At death we must surrender.
Salute as the flag is raised.
